CAMP RULES

  • This camp's goal is to teach children who love horses about them and how to ride. Beginners are welcome. We are a serious pony camp, please consider this and make sure that this is a match for your child. They will be with the ponies/ horses all day long and will not be doing craft activities and other forms of entertainment. We may have the children watch a DVD which introduces local riding heroes and demonstrates equestrian techniques if appropriate based upon weather or fatigue of the campers.
  • Scheduling may be tentative and need to change based upon weather, campers riding abilities, or, other issues.
  • The Smithwicks reserve the right to cancel, close or refund camp sessions for any reason.
  • Running, yelling, jumping around, silliness around horses/ ponies is consider dangerous as they become frightened by such behavior. Children must follow the rules of a proper horseman/ horsewoman and develop a strong, trusting bond with their mount.
  • Good sportsmanship is an expectation. Any mistreatment of another camper: bullying, teasing, taunting, etc., will not be tolerated and will lead to dismissal.
  • Animals cannot defend themselves. As a result, campers must provide excellent care to all of the farm animals; including reporting any mistreatment witnessed by another camper to the nearest counselor, immediately.
  • Barn/ farm equipment is expensive. Destruction of the farm property, such as turning on the well and leaving it running, flooding the barn destoys aforementioned property. This unfortunately happened last year and we had to put new flooring in one of the stalls.
  • DISREGARD OF RULES OR COMMON SENSE, DAMAGE OR DESTROYING PROPERTY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND EXPULSION FROM CAMP WITHOUT A REFUND WILL, AS A RESULT OCCUR.
  • Enrolling your child in camp on this website's page equates to agreeing with and having a full and complete understanding of the rules.
****Deposits are non-refundable.
*****Campers are expected to maintain the week or weeks for which they registered as we cannot logically move children around.

We, unfortunately, will not be able to add any children by getting extra ponies and hiring more counselors, as we did last year once we filled camp sessions, due to the active pony club and their show season..
I certainly apologize for any inconvenience to anyone in advance.

The cost for the regular, five day sessions are $200 for the week. The cost for the three day, mini-camp session is also $200 as we need more counselors with beginner riders.

Equipment Required For Camp

  • Approved and fitted Riding Helmet
  • Heeled and Steel-toed paddock or tall boots
  • Riding Pants of some type, (jodphers go with paddock boots and breeches go with tall boots). However, what ever is the cheapest is completely fine - mix & match if it saves you money. There are many makers of thin, aerobic outfit, thinness riding pants, made for just this type of casual riding. They are not too expensive and are often on consignment.
  • An appropriate shirt for that day's weather. One that can be tucked in, is best.
  • Gloves are important for young kids as ponies tend to tug on their hands as they try to eat grass.
  • A change of clothes including t-shirt, clogs and shorts to cool off in.
  • Clothes are supposed to be on the tighter side, not too loose pants and shirts. This is because one wants to feel the horse. Bulky clothes certainly restrict this possibility.
  • Equipment  may be purchased through our website. Email for details SmithwickFarm@gmail.com.
